Film Crew comes to Pinner
Waxwell Lane Car Park will be closed to the public next week as it is being used as a film compound.
The film is called ‘Blinded by the Light’ and is based on a book ‘Greetings from Bury Park’ written by Sarfraz Mansoor.
Waxwell Lane will also have buses shuttling the crew etc. to the location so expect more traffic.
You are being advised to park in Chapel Lane Car Park.
Mobile Friendly Website!
Good news. Having posted a selection of events on the new notice board in the High Street Gardens, I thought I should try and get our website mobile friendly so that you can check out “What’s on” from your mobile phone.
We now have a mobile friendly website.
If you find anything wrong – please email me on [email protected] or leave a comment. I will do my best to sort out the issue.
I know this works with Android phones as that is what I have tested it on.
New Notice Board
Pinner and Northwood Business Club have kindly let Pinner Association have space on their Bridge Street Gardens notice board. One of the spaces will be allocated to “What’s On “with a QR Code directing you to the Pinner Association Events page. It is envisaged that this will be changed about every 3 months.
The plan is to ensure that the key events for organisations in Pinner are displayed and to rotate other clubs and societies events (sorry, we can’t display everything).
The other space will be utilised for Pinner Association information/news & our events.

St George’s Day Celebrations – An update from Pinner Rotary Club!
Beware of dragons and wheelbarrows! On Sunday 22nd April, Pinner will be celebrating St. George, slayer of dragons and Patron Saint of England. Highlight of the day will be “Ye Olde” Wheelbarrow Race, hurtling through the streets at 3pm. A unique Pinner event and a sight not to be missed. Radio Harrow will be live on air providing race commentary and interviews.
The High Street will be closed to traffic and transformed into a family friendly venue with entertainment for everyone, including folk dancers English Miscellany, Punch and Judy, local band Simply Gray, a petting farm, face painting, balloon modelling, children’s rides, plus food stalls and much more.
The day begins at noon with bell ringing in the Parish Church, followed at 1pm by the Mayor of Harrow and St. George on his trusty steed leading the parade of District Scouts up the High Street to the War Memorial where they will renew their Promise.
Event leader, Steve Morrisby, said: “Building on the success of last year, we continue to add to the variety and quality of entertainment on offer. We encourage local residents of all ages to come and celebrate St. George, and enjoy being part of the Pinner community.”

Planning Application to build Flats in Pinner Memorial Park
A planning application has been submitted to demolish “West House Lodge” – the privately owned small house, once a part of the historic West House estate, next to the Heath Robinson Museum in Pinner Memorial Park – and construct a block of five flats in a building of two storeys with further flats at the roof level positioned further back on the site than the current Lodge and occupying the full width of the plot. The new flats, which would be much higher and more massive than the existing building and would extend behind the aviary, well beyond the building line of West House and the new Museum, would be clearly visible from and overlook the Peace Garden, the children’s playground and the lawn terrace of Daisy’s café (see picture).
Pinner Memorial Park is a greatly loved and well used local amenity. The part of the park that includes West House was purchased by public subscription in 1949 as a war memorial for those who had fallen in both World Wars. In 1995 the Peace Garden was planted to be a haven of tranquillity and dedicated as a memorial to the 50th anniversary of the ending of WWII. The park is administered by Harrow Council as trustees of the registered charity the “Pinner Memorial Park Trust”, the charitable aims of which are:
“Land held in perpetuity as an open space laid out with a minimum of disturbance to its natural and rural beauty solely for the recreation benefit and use of the public in memory of the fallen of Pinner of both world wars ….”.

£4,000 Fundraising Success
Fantastic news!
Friends of Pinner Village Gardens have come first in the latest round of the Tesco Bags of Help scheme for North West London, so our guaranteed £1,000 has been converted into £4,000!
Thanks to all of you who shopped in Tesco’s, persuaded the check-out folk to give you as many blue tokens as possible, and popped said tokens into the FoPVG ‘box’.

Annual Wheelbarrow Race – Volunteers Needed!
In case you are wondering, it’s not to take part in the wheelbarrow race but to help with stewarding! This is for 22 April.
For health and safety reasons, they need to have approximately 16 stewards for the Wheel Barrow Race and the Pinner Rotary Club can provide about 10 of these. So they need about 6 more for the duration of the race.
Basically all they need is to be able-bodied and to be available for 25 minutes from 2:30 to 3:15 pm. Plus you will get a great view of the race.

Have you thought that this is the year that you would do something for the community that you live in? Look no further… The Pinner Association AGM and elections of committee members will take place at our Open Meeting to be held at 8pm on Wednesday 18th April in the Pinner Village Hall, Chapel Lane car park… We are looking for new committee members who wish to take an active interest/role in the place where they live. We meet eleven times per year to discuss and take action on a wide range of topics every one or two months, including:
- Planning, including Pinner’s Conservation Areas
- Environment, covering Pinner’s parks and open spaces
- Highways and Parking in Pinner
- Public Transport to and from Pinner
- Local Policing
