Beware of Parcel Thieves in Pinner

Dear Watch Member,
Parcel theft is an everyday, all year-round crime that often goes unreported.

In the lead-up to Christmas, parcels may contain more expensive items than usual.

Which is great news for the opportunist thief who sees an uncollected delivery on a doorstep whilst walking down the street.

Or the thief that follows a delivery van and watches where the delivery is left before purloining it for themselves.

Here are some things you can do to reduce the risk of your parcel being stolen:

• track your parcel to ensure you or someone else is at home for the delivery
• install a video doorbell; this can be connected to your mobile so you are notified immediately of any delivery, and is easier to install than a full CCTV system
• install a security light
• arrange for your parcel to be delivered to a trusted neighbour, or other family members who will be at home; if you live in a flat, is there a concierge who could accept the parcel for you?
• use an off-site locker service for frequent deliveries, or for expensive items; these parcel boxes are more likely to be in busy, safer locations – such as supermarkets – rather than secluded areas which could be targeted by thieves

Remember, this crime prevention advice is for life, not just for Christmas.

Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) Christmas Tree Appeal 2023

Dear Resident,

The Metropolitan Police Service has again partnered with the Childhood Trust to raise money to provide toys and gifts for children living in poverty in London. Last year we were able to raise over £87,000 through small and large contributions from the public, and are looking to match that this year, with your help!

Many thanks to those who have already supported this Met Christmas tree appeal already, and for those who would like to get involved please find attached a note that goes to highlight how contributions can be made.

The document also explains about the charity we are working with.

This year the MPS has struggled to gain significant corporate sponsorship and we are getting close to the point where some difficult decisions may have to be made, if we don’t raise enough in donations. we really want every child to wake up on Christmas morning in London with a present, as no child should have to wake up feeling uncared for due to poverty or vulnerability on this day.

Any donations given are very much appreciated. Merry Christmas, and happy holidays!

Harrow to Pinner Cycleway Improvement Scheme Consultation

Harrow Council and TfL are consulting on proposals for changes to the cycling route between Harrow-on-the-Hill Station and Pinner Station which would involve alterations to the carriageway and parking in Marsh Road.

The section in central Pinner would seek to create “clear continuous cycle tracks from the proposed 20mph zone in Cecil Park to Station Approach, new public realm scheme outside Jubilee Parade, new or revised parallel zebra crossing across Marsh Road and Station Approach, and renewed and improved pavements, rain garden and other greening“.

Further information and the link to the consultation survey may be found here:  https://talk.harrow.gov.uk/harrow-to-pinner-cycleway

The consultation deadline is 23:59 on 11th December 2023.   Everyone with a view on these proposals is encouraged to participate in the consultation so as the opinions of as many Pinner residents as possible are heard.

The cost of this project if enacted would be provided by ringfenced funding from TfL.

Pinner, An Act of Remembrance

Today Pinnerites came together to remember the fallen in all conflicts.

Even though the weather wasn’t that great and rained as we set up, it was wonderful to see so many people of our community brave the weather and turn up to pay their respects.

This year planning was a little bit different due to the conflict in the Middle East and additional police from Hatch End Safer Neighbourhood Team joined us.

Thank you to all the volunteers and our sponsors that make this happen.
