Harrow Council is inviting residents to take part in an initiative to bring more greenery to the area through the Trees for Streets project. This scheme allows residents to sponsor a street tree, helping to transform local streets and create a greener environment for everyone.

Trees for Streets, a not-for-profit effort by Trees for Cities and Start with Local, is aiming to plant 250,000 street trees across the UK over the next decade. Supported by the Mayor of London, this initiative is also backed by the Green Recovery Challenge Fund and the City Bridge Trust.

How It Works: The sponsorship process has been simplified into three steps:

  1. Choose a Location: Residents pick a spot for their tree by dropping a pin on an online map. Additional information may be requested to ensure the location is suitable.
  2. Council Confirmation: The request is reviewed by a tree officer from the council to confirm it can proceed.
  3. Tree Planting: Once confirmed, the sponsorship is processed, and the tree is prepared for planting, typically done in late autumn.

After planting, residents receive reminders each summer to water the tree, ensuring it thrives. This initiative is also a way for locals to connect with their community and take an active role in enhancing their neighbourhoods.

The deadline for sponsorship requests is 3 November. For more information, visit www.treesforstreets.org.

Harrow Council shared, “Want to sponsor a tree? Pick a location, let us know, Trees for Streets will come and plant it.”
