Association AGM

The Village Hall was packed on 15 April for the AGM when there was the opportunity to raise questions currently concerning the Community.

Pat Clarke gave an interesting presentation on the history of Pinner Park Farm, which gave those attending the opportunity to air their views on the Council’s proposals for its future.  A further public consultation is to take place. The earlier one had been a complete farce.

Planning issues and the maintenance of Pinner’s parks took up most of  the discussion.  Planning issues concerned the erection of a 6 storey block of flats on the site of the former George public house and the loss of the Pinner Esso station in Marsh Road to a block of retirement flats – see later posting.

Leader of Harrow Council meets Pinner Residents

On 2 April the Leader of Harrow Council, David Perry, held a series of short meetings at West House to enable residents to express their views  on matters of concern to them.

On this occasion there was a large gathering of people concerned with the future arrangements for the maintenance of the Memorial Park, which had been changed recently, resulting in protests from the many users of the park. He certainly received vociferous protests from the many people assembled in West House and had to retreat to a quieter venue, the Shrine Room, in order for him to conduct the meetings in suitable surroundings.

69 West End Lane

The variation to the Planning Application was published, but as the details were inaccessible via the web, the Association has written to the council as follows:

The Pinner Association Executive Committee discussed application P/0531/15 – 69, West End Lane, Pinner – Variation Of Condition 2 (Approved Plans) Attached To Planning Permission P/4500/14 Dated 16/01/2015 To Allow The Re-Positioning Of The Main Entrance Door On The Front Elevation At Ground Floor Level – at its meeting yesterday.  However, as the plans are still not displaying correctly (or at all) on the Harrow Council’s Planning website (the error message and page of text is all that displays) our discussion was impeded by a lack of information.
The applicants seek to move the front door for the proposed block of flats from the ground / first floor level (which would require two flights of external steps) to the lower ground / semi basement level (the level of the semi-basement car park).  What is not clear is whether the depth of this lower ground floor / semi-basement level is to be kept to that was proposed and granted on appeal under planning application  P/0905/13/4759 (App/M5450/A/13/2202336).  If the building is to be constructed with a less deep excavation to allow the slope down to the new position for the front entrance to be not too steep then a consequence will be that the ridge height of the 3 ½ storey block would be higher than that in the approved plans as shown on the file for P/0905/13?  Will this be the case?
We would be very grateful if you could arrange for the plans for application P/0531/15 to be viewable on-line and for a confirmation that the ridge height of the building will not exceed that already allowed under P/0905/13/4759.

Frightening incident on Bridle Road

Email from a resident is Bridle Road.  If anyone saw anything please contact the police, no matter how insignificant you may think.

I write to tell you about a nasty incident that happened at our house on Bridle Road last night.
While my mother was alone at home, three men kicked our (very heavy) door down and burst into our house. My mother was threatened with a screwdriver by one of the men, while the house was ransacked by the other men. Jewellery worn by mother on her wrist was forcibly removed. This was a particularly nasty incident which the police described as “extreme”. The police were here for over three hours, had a scene of crime tape around the house while forensics officers did their work.
Do ask people to be extra vigilant?

Police Warning

The Pinner / Pinner South Safer Neighbourhood Teams would like to make you aware of a male named Paul, who is knocking on doors and asking residents if they would like their gutters cleared, usually for £40. If he receives an affirmative response he will often return minutes later with a ladder, usually borrowed from another resident.
Several hours or days later he will return and claim that he needs money for his car/van which has either broken down or has run out of petrol.
This male is known to have knocked on doors in the Harrow Weald, Hatch End and now the Pinner areas and although known to police indices he has not been directly linked to any offences at present. The male is white, is aged between 30-35 years old, has a short ginger beard and he wears casual / workmen’s attire and occasionally a black woolly hat.
Gutter clearing or window cleaning is a great opportunity for people to assess a properties security vulnerabilities and location of valuable items. Please DO NOT accept offers of work from this male or any other cold-callers offering services or products.
If you ever have suspicions about the presence, behaviour or activity of a person/s or vehicles in your road please contact either the non-emergency 101 or emergency 999 number.
