Pinner Local History Society – Eastcote House Gardens: The Story behind the Lottery Project
1 December 2022 @ 20:00 - 22:00
Speaker Charmian Baker
Visitors are very welcome (suggested donation £3).
Eastcote House Gardens is a beautiful and tranquil green space containing Grade II-listed dovecote, stables and walled garden, and a café. The gardens are maintained today by Hillingdon Council, working with a volunteer group, the Friends of Eastcote House Gardens, who also look after Long Meadow, a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation linked to the gardens by a footbridge over the River Pinn. The Tudor buildings, survivors from a lost historic mansion, were restored following a successful bid for National Lottery Funding in 2014, which is the subject of Charmian’s talk.
Charmian, who grew up in Pinner, is a Town Planner and Conservation Officer, working for LB Hillingdon, and has been concerned with historic buildings all her working life. She took on Eastcote House Gardens in 2008, soon after joining Hillingdon. Then she took on a similar Lottery-funded project concerning Cranford Park (a historic estate on outskirts of Heathrow), now in its final year.
