Pinner Local History Society – St Lawrence Whitchurch: a Building and its People
1 September 2022 @ 20:00 - 22:00
On Thursday 1st September, at 8pm, the Pinner Local History Society will resume its monthly talks in the Pinner Village Hall, Chapel Lane. Stuart Cawthorne will talk on the subject of “St Lawrence Whitchurch: a Building and its People”.
St Lawrence is the elaborately decorated church rebuilt in the early 18th century to serve the Duke of Chandos’s fantastic and short-lived mansion at Canons Park. Handel, famously, played the organ there.
Stuart is a guide at the church, a long-term member of its congregation, the treasurer of the Friends of St Lawrence, and the author of St Lawrence Whitchurch – Its Memorials and its People. The title of this talk is slightly different, reflecting Stuart’s belief that the building can tell us so much about the history of the area and the people who made it what it is today.
Why not come along to the meeting, visitors are very welcome (suggested donation £3). The society welcomes new members with memories of Pinner and those who love history. It’s easy to join, just go to the website https://www.pinnerlhs.org.uk and complete the form.
