Thank you Julie and all the volunteers for the Summer Band Concerts

A huge Thank You all the volunteers who helped us to put on our 2021 season of Summer Band Concerts in Pinner Memorial Park on the last four Sundays.  We carried on despite the weather and enjoyed four wonderful performances from the Harrow Steel Band, the Fats Rollini Jazz & Blues Band, the Stardust Big Band and today from Simply Gray.   Our audiences obviously enjoyed these free open air concerts in the lovely surroundings of the park, as the generous donations to the West House and Heath Robinson Museum Trust charity who were collecting at the last two concerts demonstrated.

There is one person without whom none of the concerts would have happened – from obtaining the necessary permission from Harrow Council to use the park and booking all the bands to picking up litter, putting up and taking down the equipment, and litter picking before and after each concert, Julie Waller, Chair of the Pinner Association has been indefatigable and managed to keep smiling come rain or shine – so a special “Thank You” Julie from us all.

Loft Insulation Cold Calling Scam

Dear Watch Member,

Please be aware of a fraudulent cold calling scam currently targeting residents of Hertfordshire who have had spray foam loft insulation applied in the past. The fraudsters may tell you that there are issues with the original installation company and they may frighten you by talking about fire risks associated with that insulation. They will inform you that you will be able to reclaim the cost of the installation and that they will be able to remedy the works, essentially free of charge.

None of those claims are true. What is true however, is that customer lists have fallen into the hands of scammers who are making these targeted sales calls. Once in a property, they produce a ‘report’ indicating safety problems and then arrange to carry out ‘remedial’ works themselves.

Although they say the work is free, they will need paying first, telling you to try to claim money back from your bank for the original defective works. In the absence of a genuine inspection report, this will not happen. If payment was made by cheque or bank transfer, there is no obligation for the bank to pay anything back in these circumstances anyway. It is a scam.

If you, or anyone you know, has had this work done in the past please be prepared for these calls and tell them that you are not interested. Please don’t allow the trader to enter your home.

The Stardust Big Band Playing at Pinner Memorial Park

The Stardust Big Band dodged the rain showers at Pinner Memorial Park this afternoon.

It was their first concert this decade.

A BIG thanks to the audience who ignored the weather forecast to come and listen.  (The eagle eyed of you might have spotted me dancing.)

The biggest thanks must go to the people that helped pack up. It tipped it down and we got soaked.

Next week is our final concert. We will be welcoming back Simply Gray.  I hope to see you there.

Volunteer Gardeners Wanted.

Wish you had a larger garden?

We are looking to resurrect the volunteer gardening team that helps weed and deadhead flowers in the Peace Garden in Pinner Memorial Park.

We currently pay for professional gardeners to do all of the major maintenance, for example hedge trimming, and we are looking to supplement this with people who enjoy pottering in a garden.

We would ask all volunteers to bring their own secateurs, hoes and gloves.

If you are interested please email Christine at [email protected]

Thank you.

Fats Rollini Jazz & Blues Band play in Pinner Memorial Park

Today despite a downpour before the concert started, people turned up to listen to Fats Rollini Jazz and Blues Band.

Unfortunately they were without their singer who got pinged yesterday and had to isolate.

Thank you for ignoring the weather forecast and enjoying the concert.

The highlight of the day was when I was approached by two youngsters who had lost their grandmother. Luckily they were quickly united.

Next week Thye Stardust Big Band will be playing.

Harrow Steel Band Performing at Pinner Memorial Park.

We did it!

Getting ready for the concert!

It was wonderful to have music from Harrow Steel Band wafting across the park after so long.

What was more surprising was that for once the weather gods were quite kind to us. It only started to rain when packing up.

Thank you to Harrow Steel for entertaining everyone. Thank you to all the helpers who gave up their time – it was appreciated.

Next week Fats Rollini Jazz and Blues band will be entertaining us. See you there.
