A Message From The Queen’s Head

 

 

 

We have received this message from the publican at the Queen’s Head.

“We are in full lockdown as you know.  However, I left the benches out at the front of the pub as a kind of civic amenity.  However, this has been terribly abused (a) by people buying cheap alcohol from the local supermarkets and drinking at the front of the pub in groups that were clearly not one household and (b) by people who daubed the benches with graffiti and left large amounts of takeaway litter on the pavement at the front of the pub.  All of these activities could bring the pub into disrepute or even endanger it’s license.  I have therefore reluctantly decided to put the benches and umbrellas into storage until we re-open and can monitor the activities outside.”

Now you know why the benches have disappeared.

Hallowe’en Night / Unexpected Visitors Advice

Dear Watch Member,

The COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent Tier 2 restrictions mean Hallowe’en will be very different this year.

Despite this, there may be some people still wanting to “Trick or Treat”. There may also be a minority of people who use the occasion to cause anti-social behaviour or, worse than that, commit criminal offences such as burglary.

Burglars are known to knock on doors / ring doorbells to ascertain if anyone is home. If they don’t get a response, they will assume the house is empty – especially if the house is in darkness and there are no other signs of occupancy – and make attempts to access the property.

Therefore, it’s important to respond to any activity or sound you hear outside your home, and report any suspicious activity to either the non-emergency 101 or emergency 999 number.

Please find attached a ‘Welcome Trick or Treaters’, and ‘No Trick or Treaters’ poster you may wish to display in a window.

Did you Know?

The Dove of Peace memorial in the Peace Garden within Pinner Memorial Park is a on the official war memorial register.  It was unveiled in August 1995 by the then Mayor of Harrow Mr Stephen Giles Medhurst during the commemorations for the 50th anniversary of the ending of the Second World War.

The Dove of Peace was designed by students from Nower Hill School, who won a competition for local schools to design a peace monument for the new garden.  The Peace Garden itself was created to be a place for quiet contemplation and a tranquil refuge from the otherwise busy everyday life of the park in which it is situated.

The Dove of Peace is a memorial to all those that have fallen in conflicts and a symbol of the desire for peace in the world:

Every year the Mayor of Harrow lays a poppy wreath at the Dove of Peace in the lead up to Remembrance Sunday as a mark of respect to all those that have fallen in conflicts around the world.

Autumn Nights 2020

Dear Watch Member,

* Close and lock all your doors and windows, even if you’re only going out for a few minutes.

* Double-lock any door.

* Make sure that any valuables are out of sight.

* Keep handbags away from the letterbox or cat flap and hide all keys including car keys, as a thief could hook keys or valuables through even a small opening.

* Never leave car documents or ID in obvious places such as kitchens or hallways.  In the evening, shut the curtains and leave lights on.

* If you’re out all day, then it’s advisable to use a timer device to automatically turn lights and a radio on at night.

* Set your burglar alarm.

* Make sure the side gate is locked.

* Lock your shed or garage.

* Lock your bike inside a secure shed or garage, to a robust fitting bolted to the ground or wall, like a ground anchor.
