Pinner Panto Evening held on Thursday 24^th November was a great success with crowds of people filling the whole of Pinner’s shopping areas.  The Mayor of Harrow, Cllr. Rekha Shah, officially lit the Christmas lights on the two street Christmas Trees (sponsored by The Pinner Association) at 5pm, and the Bridge Street Christmas lights (sponsored by The Pinner Association) and the new High Street light decorations (sponsored by the Pinner Ward Councillors) all created a festive scene.

The school and youth group choirs and dancers, and the Merrydowners Morris, provided street entertainment, and there were many fairground rides for children of all ages.  The finale was a spectacular Fireworks Display in Pinner Memorial Park.   We wish to thank the Pinner & Northwood Business Club and all the Pinner businesses who sponsored this wonderful community event.

The Pinner Association were pleased to sponsor the Traders’ Fancy Dress Competition at Pinner Panto Evening 2016.  The standard of the costumes chosen by the many Pinner shops and businesses who took part was even better than ever and the Mayor of Harrow had a very difficult task to choose the winners.

We wish to thank Cllr Rehka Shah, the Mayor of Harrow, who walked all around Pinner four times during the day, judging the decorated windows and Traders’ Fancy Dress competitions in addition to speaking with hundreds of people during the evening and having hundreds of photo’s taken.  Her warmth and delight in everything she saw and everyone she met did much to make the evening special.

 

Just a reminder that the High Street will be closed tomorrow late afternoon/evening and there will be extra congestion on Bridge Street. If you are driving, I would suggest you try another route.

A band of rain followed by heavy showers is expected to pass over the Hertfordshire and North London area this afternoon and in to this evening. Some of these showers may be very heavy. In areas which receive the highest rainfall some localised flooding is possible, either from the rivers and or surface water flooding. The showers are expected to clear tomorrow morning. We will continue to monitor the situation.

Just a reminder that the Christmas Lights are due to be switched on by the Mayor at 5pm on Pinner Pantomime Night (24 Nov 16).

The Pinner Association bought new lights for the Christmas trees in the High Street and Bridge Street last year and these have created a much better display.

We also provide the decorative lighting in Bridge Street and have been aware for several years that it really needs improving.  However, the existing lampposts are old and can’t take anything more elaborate due to the increased wind loading that would arise.  Harrow Council is planning to replace the lampposts in Bridge Street next year and we then hope to be able to consider purchasing new and better lights.

In the meantime, Pinner Councillor Steve Wright has organised much more festive lighting in the High Street which we hope will be appreciated by all.

We have been informed by the Harrow Public Transport Users Association that Harrow Council are to close part of Bridge Street Pinner, to re-surface the section between the junctions with the High Street and Love Lane, commencing 17th November for an anticipated maximum of 6 days.

Vehicles will not be able to enter or exit Bridge Street from the High Street, Chapel Lane and Love Lane.

The 183 bus route will terminate in Cecil Park, and the H11, H12 and H13 bus routes will use West End Lane to by-pass the closed section of Bridge Street.

The advice is to avoid the area if possible while these resurfacing works are carried out!

In glorious autumn sunshine on the morning of Sunday 13^th November a large crowd of Pinner residents gathered at the Pinner War Memorial at the top of the High Street for the annual Remembrance Sunday Service. The Service was conducted by clergy from the local denominations and faiths, and over forty wreaths were laid by our MP Nick Hurd, representatives of armed and wartime services organisations, local councillors, the Police, Fire Service and St John’s Ambulance, local schools and Scouts and Guides, local community organisations and sports clubs.

 

The Police Cadets acted as stewards, The Sea Cadets provided the guard of Honour at the Memorial and the Lost Post & Reveille were excellently played with great confidence by James Gardener of Nower Hill School.

The Remembrance Sunday Service was organised by The United Services Club and The Pinner Association, with special thanks to Mrs Caroline Ennis. After the service, Carpentier & Co teamed up with the Queen’s Head to provide free tea and coffee for those who had attended the Service.
