Keith Schofield, who sadly died last week, was a pillar of the Pinner community.  Whether it be his membership of the Pinner Association Committee for what must be a record number of years, serving as our Chairman and latterly as our President, his Chairmanship of our High Street Committee which has done much to preserve our treasured “village”, or his hands on and active Chairmanship of “PADCA” for well over twenty years, Keith undertook every task with an enviable enthusiasm and competence.  His depth of knowledge of all Pinner matters will be sorely missed, as will his cheerful encouragement and support for his colleagues.  Keith’s invariable good humour and kindness will remain as a happy memory for all who had the privilege to know him.

Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

Over the last six weeks (since 1st December 2016) the Pinner area has suffered from a series of burglaries – 24 in total!

The ethnicity of the burglary victims vary, however many of the victims are of Asian descent because criminals are aware of the quality and value that Asian gold possesses. Other expensive property e.g. designer watches, currency and vehicles are also being taken.

The timeframe for the burglaries vary, however it is likely that the majority of them have occurred after dark. On two occasions a house has been burgled minutes after the victim/s have left the house in the evening.

To access the rear of a property burglars are walking through unlocked or insufficiently secured side gates, or using wheelie bins or other available elevated footholds to climb onto and over low-level garage roofs and side gates.

The methods of entry to homes include:

• forcing or prising open a porch, front or patio door;
• smashing through a ground-floor or first-floor window

You can reduce the chances of your home being burgled by assessing your home security and proactively addressing any security vulnerabilities it may have.

You are the eyes and ears of your road and immediate neighbourhood and with your assistance, vigilance and information we can reduce burglary across the Pinner area.

If you observe any suspicious activity, be it from a vehicle or person/s please call the non-emergency 101 or emergency 999 number.

The Heath Robinson Museum in Pinner opened to critical acclaim in October. It has brought new heart to the community, is a “destination spot” and is fast becoming a creative hub for the surrounding area with lots of activities for children and adults.

The opening times over Christmas and New Year are as follows:

The Museum will open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until Christmas when the Museum is open on Thursday 22^nd and Friday 23rd December. A lot of people are making their way to the Museum to buy  Christmas presents and cards at the Museum Shop –  there is a 10% promotion on products in the Makers Art range. This coming weekend of 16^th to 18^th December is expected to be busy!

The Museum and shop will then be open the weekend of 6^th to 8^th January (the last chance to see the Heath Robinson at War exhibition) and then be closed for building and “snagging” work until 19^th January.  Some activity workshops will continue over this time – please look at the Heath Robinson website www.heathrobinsonmuseum.org for more information.

Following Monday’s consultation meeting below is a summary of the options that were up for discussion.

We are delighted that Mayor Kahn has announced that Harrow-on-the-Hill Station is at last to have lifts installed. He says that work will commence in 2017. This is long overdue and very welcome.

HPTUA, HAD, Harrow Council, Local Councillors and MPs and the Council Officers have been lobbying for this for over 30 years.

When these lifts are installed, with all Bus Routes from Harrow Bus Station being fully accessible, it will mean many more journeys will be possible for disabled and less-able-bodied passengers.

There is emergency work being carried out due to a burst water main. Traffic Lights are in operation.

Pinner Panto Evening held on Thursday 24^th November was a great success with crowds of people filling the whole of Pinner’s shopping areas.  The Mayor of Harrow, Cllr. Rekha Shah, officially lit the Christmas lights on the two street Christmas Trees (sponsored by The Pinner Association) at 5pm, and the Bridge Street Christmas lights (sponsored by The Pinner Association) and the new High Street light decorations (sponsored by the Pinner Ward Councillors) all created a festive scene.

The school and youth group choirs and dancers, and the Merrydowners Morris, provided street entertainment, and there were many fairground rides for children of all ages.  The finale was a spectacular Fireworks Display in Pinner Memorial Park.   We wish to thank the Pinner & Northwood Business Club and all the Pinner businesses who sponsored this wonderful community event.

The Pinner Association were pleased to sponsor the Traders’ Fancy Dress Competition at Pinner Panto Evening 2016.  The standard of the costumes chosen by the many Pinner shops and businesses who took part was even better than ever and the Mayor of Harrow had a very difficult task to choose the winners.

We wish to thank Cllr Rehka Shah, the Mayor of Harrow, who walked all around Pinner four times during the day, judging the decorated windows and Traders’ Fancy Dress competitions in addition to speaking with hundreds of people during the evening and having hundreds of photo’s taken.  Her warmth and delight in everything she saw and everyone she met did much to make the evening special.
